The awards represent the highest level of achievement made by the international meat industry.
The awards were announced May 7, 2019 in Frankfort, Germany at the IFFA, the world’s largest meat industry trade fair. The U.S. part of the competition was held last January in Madison, Wisc.
Cured won Gold Medals for its Capicola, Finocchiona Salami and Culatta Dry Cured Ham. It also won a Bronze Medal for its Oregano Salami.
The official awards ceremony for the U.S. entries will be presented in conjunction with the American Cured Meat Championships at the AAMP Convention in Mobile, Alabama July 27, 2019.
The U.S. competition, judged by German trained experts, included more than 460 entries from 42 companies across the United States. All entries were graded on appearance, consistency, smell and taste. U.S. medal winners were then entered into the international competition.
Chris Young, executive director of AAMP (the American Association of Meat Processors), said the awards demonstrate the international competitiveness and quality of Cured by Visconti’s products.
“On behalf of AAMP and our members, we congratulate Cured by Visconti for its outstanding achievements,” Young said.
Cured by Visconti is located at 636 Front St., Leavenworth, Wa. The specialty meat shop is part of the Visconti Restaurant Group. Owned by Dan Carr and Candace Mecham, the group operates Visconti’s Italian Restaurants in Wenatchee and Leavenworth, Leavenworth Sausage Garten and Viadolce Gelato shop in Leavenworth, and Fire Pizzeria and Ice gelato in Pybus Market in Wenatchee.
